Last week I celebrated my friend, Nancy’s, birthday. We had planned to meet at the Park Meadows Mall to go shopping and have lunch at Cheesecake Factory. After a couple of hours of walking and shopping, we decided it was time to eat. She had brought my birthday present with her because my birthday is only two days after hers. When I opened my gift, I felt emotional. First, let me say that she is incredibly talented and gifted. She is one of the most creative and artsy people I know. She had made several hats to sell in her friend’s boutique in Steamboat Springs. Before she mailed them, she sent me pictures of the hats she had made. I made a comment on one of them about it being my favorite. Well, when I opened my gift, that hat was in the gift bag (see picture below). I felt honored that she gave that one to me. After I had opened the book and journal she included (she knows I love to read and journal) I asked her if she feels a spiritual connection to God while she’s creating. She said that she does, that when she starts using her hands, she leaves all the worldly problems and issues behind and gets engrossed in what she’s doing. Nancy creates everything she does with love.

While I was meditating this morning, a message came to my mind that said, when we are creating from a place of love, whether it’s food, art, writing, gardening, whatever passion we have, it’s a connection to God/Source because God/Source is nothing but love.

It’s the same for me as it is Nancy. When I’m writing, I’m not thinking of the bills coming in that need to be paid or things I need to do; I’m engrossed in the words I’m putting on the monitor, focused on how I can make this resonate for my readers.

How many times do we feel guilty working on things we truly enjoy when there are so many things to be done…getting the bathroom or kitchen cleaned, laundry done, grocery shopping, picking up dry cleaning, etc. While these things are important and at some point, need to be done, what can be more important than our connection to God/Source?

When I’ve put time into writing, journaling, or meditating, I feel energized and excited about my day. To me, it’s important to do those things that I enjoy so that when I’m cleaning house, cooking dinner, paying bills, I have a much better attitude about it.

Is there something you’re wanting to start, something that keeps calling and nudging you, and you can’t let it go? Is fear holding you back from starting that desired project? That constant desire and nudging is your message to start. Blake Mycoskie wrote in his book, Start Something that Matters, “If you’re like me and most of the people I know, you yearn for something more than just business success. You’re searching for meaning. You want to have the time and freedom to do the things you love and contribute to making the world a better place.” The negative self-talk that so many of us experience is our ego trying to protect us from failure thereby preventing us from starting. That negative self-talk can be paralyzing! While we can appreciate and say thank you to our ego for trying to protect us, change that conversation to encouraging words. Understand there are lessons in the “failure” should we experience it. There are lessons in how we can do things better, things we can change to make our project better. Life is a classroom, and we receive lessons every day. Unfortunately, there are times we fail in life, but failure isn’t really failing. Those failures are teaching points. We learn what we can do better, what works and what doesn’t. Those failures can be the biggest blessings.

In his book, Awakening through Moments of Choice: A Memoir of Divine Guidance, Vince Kramer writes, “Your gifts are meant to be shared in the world. To fully live your life in alignment with purpose, you will use all your gifts in your interactions with others. (The Round Table, channeled by Vince Kramer).” What gifts have you been given that you’re afraid to share with the world? I encourage you to silent the ego and change the conversation in your head. Meditate and seek guidance on how best to share your gift(s) with the world. Don’t make the world wait any longer!
